1. What is your name and When did you start making clothing?
Murphy Martines, I started making my own clothes in college.
2. Why did you start making clothing?
I guess fashion was always something I was into growing up. Thanks to my mom being a compulsive shopper. I studied art and industrial design in collage and found it was a bit to serious for me. So, One spring break while everyone was getting drunk I went home and made patterns and sewed a full collection of Copy gear. I made over sized hoodies with detachable reflective stripes and a draw cord chino pant and bunch of hand painted t-shirts. I returned to school and people freaked out and couldn’t believe I made the outfits. From then on I new It was something I was meant to do.

3. What are some of your favorite moments in your career?
The first time Copy made it in a major magazine. I still remember the moment picking it up and seeing one of my pieces. It was dope last season when I had to ask buyers to come back to our booth at the trade shows because we where so busy. We didn’t have room to accommodate everyone. I always dreamed of the day that would happen.
4. What do you think is the future of your industry?
More sustainable manufacturing and a heighten sense of the consumer…when it comes to design and brand authenticity.

5. If you could, what is one thing would you do differently?
Partner with someone at the beginning who is good at what I am not so great at.
6. What is some advice for young artists trying to have a career like yourself?
Never give up … do what you want to do and be creative.
7. What is the next big project you have planned?
We are working an a collection with the dubstep king Rusko which we are launching for the fall 12 collection. Other than that working on the fall 12 brand bible and starting spring 13 design.
